What else is there to do?

We repeat the same arguments. We pull up the statistics about abortion rates and death rates and the benefits of proper sex education and birth control access. We repeat the science. We tell our stories, relive our traumas, scream out our pain.

But it isn’t enough.

They tell us to vote so we vote. We march in the streets and show up, we do our part. We rally together and make sure everyone knows how important it is to elect those who will fight for us, who will fight for our right to choose. We vote and we win.

But it isn’t enough.

We look at corpses, corpses who are allowed to say, from the grave, “No. You cannot use my body for that,” and we ask, “Why not us? Why can’t we say no?”

We are tired. Tired of being promised one thing and served another. Tired of yelling, screaming, begging them to hear us. Tired of hoping for compassion and receiving cruelty.

But what else is there to do?

If you have the answer please tell us. We are desperate for a way out, a way forward. We cannot go back.

What else but to keep standing, keep fighting? Keep repeating our statistics and telling our stories and begging them to hear us.

It seems futile. Our adversary is too strong, their grip is tightening, we are running out of air. And yet we fight.

What else is there to do?
